Natalie Ermann Russell
As the former managing editor of Martha Stewart Living magazine, Natalie has long had a passion for writing about beautiful, delicious foods. But it was a chance encounter with an Albemarle Pippin—an apple that has thrived in this area from the early 18th century, including in the orchards of native son Thomas Jefferson—that solidified her enthusiasm for the rich food culture of central Virginia. Between crisp, sweet-tart bites, she has written for magazines including Gourmet, Real Simple, Saveur, and USA Weekend, and has penned the Outdoor Entertaining Idea Book (Taunton; January 2009). As a mother, Natalie is intensely interested in understanding the journey of our food from farm to fork. And as a writer, she feels it’s only natural to marry her editorial expertise with the bountiful cornucopia that is Virginia’s Blue Ridge.
